About Aie

An architect by trade, Aie (pronounced like a long A) is a quilt designer, teacher, and author who unexpectedly fell in love with quilting while taking a break from her professional career to raise a family in 1995.  Originally from Burma, Aie brings Southeast Asian influence to many of her designs and colour schemes.

Lotusland's Patterns

Lotusland's quilt patterns were first launched and well received in 1999 in Calgary and Aie started teaching at local quilt shops . With the encouragement and moral support of a local quilt shop owner Aie went to International Quilt Market and Festival as a vendor and her patterns were carried by U.S. Distributors and quilt shops. Her patterns were also available online through her own website;

Affairs of the Heart

The book was published by AQS soon after Aie had won the First Prize in Nashville,AQS show and Contest in 2004. The original quilt was only 60"x60" and it was hand appliquéd and machine quilted. In 2005 The quilt was purchased by a private collector from Aie at Paducah, Kentucky AQS show while Aie was there as a teacher and author.
In 2013, with Aie's permission, the same design was digitized and launched as an embroidery and machine appliqué designs by Anna's Awesome Appliqué Designs. With the new digitized designs pre-fused laser- cut appliqué kits made with fabrics from Jinny Beyer Palette became widely available throughout North America.
In 2015 Aie recreated the quilt using a soft colour palette, and Wonderfil Specialty Threads. This version was completely done by machine using the digitized design by Anna.. Shirley Clarkson from High River, Ab, kindly stitched the machine appliqué and embroidery, and Aie longarmed the quilt at the Wonderfil Threaducation Centre.
